My stupid borhters have gotten a virus on my laptop!!?

(I have a question at the bottom)

Grr, its my laptop. I am 12 and I won that in a competition. Our other computer got a virus because of them (the same) downloading videos and music. We rang Dell about the other computer, and they said there was nothing to do, apart from restore the computer (deleting EVERYTHING, everyone has photos, documents etc)

I have told them No, that they can't use it, but they took it anyway and got a bloody virus. My uncles laptop got a virus, and he had to get a new one.

Mam was meant to buy me virus protection, but she never got round to it. So, if I bought protection now, would it go away?

Also, which is better? Norton or McAfee?

You dont need to BUY virus protection. You can get it for FREE. People get viruses constantly because they think they need to pay for it.

Download avg v.7.5 http://free.grisoft.com/ its free and will rid your machine of the infection. Make sure you run a full scan. As for Dell saying you have to restore the computer, the only time you would need to do this is if the os was totally corrupted. If the computer boots up and you have access you can clean this one as well.

Get a good 4GB or so flash drive and back up your most importune stuff to you and then delete everything else
Sounds like your bros would like LimeWire. tell them to get that, and they whouldn't have a problem with videos. as long as they don't start downloading it from other places.

And McAfee is way better. the free ones rarely truly get rid of a virus. Both McAfee and Norton do, but McAfee is better.
