Dropped ipod, wont turn on?

Let me start by saying that I have a 30 GB ipod, I have never dropped it, and i bought it at about the beginning of '06. Just a few minutes ago, it fell from my 3 foot 'high' bed, onto my very soft carpeted floor. Now it won't turn on, it won't play music, it just doesnt do anything. And no, the hold switch is not on. I have tried just about anything.

ALSO: My computer recognizes the hardware, because i see that bubble saying that the device could perform better w/ a faster port, yet its not showing up in itunes, or in My Computer.

What the hell is going on?!? I am finally able to afford an ipod (yes, im kinda short on money right now), and it breaks after just one year of good, proper care! Are apple products really this crappy?

Is there anything I could do about it without having to buy a new one? I have none of those protection packages.

Has this happened to you? If yes, what did you do?

Can you seriously READ the question before you answer? I cant believe this was picked as best. I know you voted for yourself, no one else in their right mind would pick this answer. Im very disappointed. Report It

Hopefully you got the warranty. I went through like 6 iPods while mine was under warranty and had no problem getting them fixed. I would follow the steps online they suggest and if that doesn't work bring it in to the store or send it in to get fixed. They were always really great about replacing mine.
yea...i really dont no about this one, apple doesnt like to stand behind there products..all I can say is call them and ask them for trouble shooting..
first start by holding the menu button and the middle button at the same time for a few seconds then try and see if it turns back on
