Virus infection!! Help..McAfee or Norton?

My computer crashed, so with the help of friend, I removed everything. Now I am trying to install security/protection software but I am overwhelmed with pop-ups and slow downloads I can not complete any downloads? What should I do? How can I get around these pop-ups long enough to finish what I need to do? Is it possible that a virus is still affecting my computer?

you need to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall Microsoft (i'm assuming thats what you have) after installing windows. install McAfee or Norton (although I found McAfee to be a lot better protection) I would also install a pop up blocker (I use Ad ware and Spybot, they work really well) then continue installing windows updates then everything else onto your computer.

don't plug into the net unless you have to, until after you've installed McAfee.

Obviously you still have issues. Download Avast anti virus, spybot search and destroy, and lavasoft's adaware. They should get rid of the majority of problems.
McAfee is pretty good . Yahoo has a virus going around and my computer spotted it before it could do any harm. Also limewire has viruses in people files so beware. Anything you download has a possiblility of spyware, adware and viruses so make sure you are constantly scanning your computer.
