If in the event one were to find a way to circument current copy-protection measures on most comnmercially available DVDs, and were shortly thereafter given a reason to do so, would this activity in any conceivable way be logged or traceable?

If you are talking about copying a DVD so that you can have a backup just in case. I doubt if anyone would be too interested. However, if you are talking about making 50 copies of the newest release. Yes, I think you should be worried.

Where are you getting this software to do the copy? From an Internet site? If so, yes the people out there who have said that copying a DVD is illegal could trace you. Big question is, is it worth the risk????

As far as can someone tell that you are burning illegal DVDs??? As long as you are not on line and didn't download the software from the Internet........ Probably No.......But if you think that your friends will keep your activity secret, don't bet on it.

Landscap picture problem?

hi everybody, i have got Motorokr E6 with a 2 MP camera. its nice and take good quality pictures too, but since we take the picture by posing the phone in a horizontal position, the pictures in the computer, when transfered are also turned side wise and i am not able to save them after turning them 270 degrees this is only because these photos are copy right protected. i could not remove these copyright protection settings in my phone nor i could do any thing after transfering the photos to the system. can any body help me in this regard.

I have installed symantec antivirus version 10 in my pc. Today in the noon I found that there were three trojan horses which caught by auto protection. They are Trojan.pandex!inf, backdoor.trojan, and trojan.dropper. I've deleted the files containing these threats cuz they were either cleaned or quarantined. But after then also adwares are there in my pc and continuously flashing off for free scan or either for security softwares. I know that this is fake cuz before also I have encountered with these security risks but this time I don't know what to do. AVG does not really have a "help" section. (not that I can find) This just started to happen about three weeks ago, but now I am sick of it! Happens everyday!! I am sure I have other forms of protection on here, but I am pretty computer illiterate and relied on someone else to put it all together. I have a wired LAN desktop, and i was thinking of buying a wireless router so i can make my PS3 connected to the web. The PS3 does WPA, which is newer and uncrackable (now), and WEP, any router will do the job, the PS3 has 802.11G so if you get a wireless-N router you wont get any of the advantages. But G has alot more range and speed than B so go with that.

Ok, not a problem. Just calm down and i'll tell you how to remove this trojan. Everything will be ok.

Here's what you need to do.

1st, don't waste your time with AVG, spybot, ad aware, CA, spyhunter, superantispyware, mcafee, avast, panda, kaspersky, windows defender or anything of the sort. Stay away from anything that is FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they free. They are NOT good.

In Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic, a disc will usually read as "Medium Error" and "Cannot read TOC" after attempting to burn something, but formatting the disc seems to work. CD-rw's will usually burn completely, but give me an error at the end telling me I should run Scandisk. (Running Scandisk will crash explorer or lockup the system.) DVD-rw's won't get past 3% before generating a "medium error." (Same with dvd-r's.) I know it isn't a medium error, at least not with the cd-rw's, because I formatted and burned files onto them on another computer with the same Roxio software, but when trying to read them on this laptop, Roxio labels it a medium error, and Windows declares it a corrupt or incompatible format. The cd runs fine on other computers. Also, store-bought (non-burnt) cds read fine on the laptop, as do cd-r's. Recently discovered Starforce drivers installed but I removed them. Does this seem like a copy-protection problem? Hardware? Or does the lens need to be cleaned?Thanks!

It is trying to tell you that the language that the CD bears are foreign to your OS.

Search for the correct region code to read your CDs.

Almost a year ago i decided to see how bad these viruses are (since i can just reload windows in the event of infection) and removed all antivirus, spyware, and adaware. I even have windows firewall off and my router firewall at low!

You've gotten a lot of complicated answers. Have you tried simply going into restore to an earlier date ? Go back about 2 weeks into your restore calender and let it do it's thing. If it gets rid of the problem, don't look the gift horse in the mouth, run with it. Best is kid education. But they or their friends will always be curious about the forbidden. You can put a few blocks in a netgear or similar wireless router. You can also set the router to send you a report of all websites visited by EVERYONE on your network in it's config. But youtube is so hard with kids - the comments are full of swearing even if the video is innocent. I don't know about the software you mentioned but there is also key capture devices for you to monitor all typing. Pretty big brother-ish but depends on how worried you are about kids. Keeping the computer in the family room was recommended to me by a police detective. Good luck.

I have one computer connected through DSL. I have no other computers in my home to connect to yet but I want a router for the hardware firewall that it offers. I don't need bells and whistles and cost is a factor.

Yes, all routers are hardware firewalls, and in many cases will always work better than software firewalls. I personally really like the Linksys WRT54G router. You can pick it up for under $50. What ever router you do end up going with make sure that it is a wireless router and that it uses the Wireless G frequency. All wireless routers also come with usually 4 LAN inputs so that you can use a CAT 5 cable to connect the computers through a hardwire if desired. If you purchase a router that supports wireless technology you will just be saving yourself time and money if you do ever decide to move into the wireless realm with a new computer or laptop. Anti-virus software won't, but if you have a security suite, then yes the firewall can shut down your network connection as well as any peripheral devices, like printers, external hard drives and the such. Making exceptions rules in the software is the only way to make it work properly. Most programs have an allow and remember this answer or setting type wizard when they detect programs accessing the internet. I hope this helps.

After extensive research, I've found out that the annoying contra-virus is some sort of rouge anti-spyware product. That really makes no sense to me, but whatever. Spybot Search and Destroy doesn't work, and neither does my virus-protection. It was suggested that I run Spyware Doctor, and I did. But its expensive to buy it. send it back to Dell...you have one of their many lemons...try a different manufacture and that should solve the issue. I need The Sims 2 Original installation help!!?

I have played The Sims 2 Original for about 2-3 years now. When switching virus protection software, I didn't restart the computer immediately after. When I started to play it, it would load and when clicking a neighborhood, it would freeze. Not to mention the screen flicker when just on the desktop.

I later uninstalled the virus protection software and reinstalled it and restarted my computer. The flickering stopped.

However, I had uninstalled The Sims 2 in case the files became corrupted.

Now when I try to reinstall the game, I cannot install it all the way. It stops and freezes after it says to insert disk 2. It just completely stops and 23%. I can click other things on the desktop just fine, but the The Sims 2 window is completely frozen.

I checked the disk and it's clean. I did completely uninstalled the game. Help!! Can I fix it or should I just buy a new game?

The problem is Trojandownloader:Win32/Zlob. Windows Defender asks me to review it, then I click the box to say Remove. But it doesn't work. Every time I come back to the computer I get the same message. The level of threat is severe. How did it get there and how do i get rid of it? That particular variant of the Zlob Trojan is in your temporary internet files so it keeps reinstalling itself. When Defender catches it, delete it then go to Internet Explorer and delete all of your history. If you have Firefox, clear the firefox one too. If you see that it is still showing up, get another scanner such as Kaspersky (the best on the market) I personally had this problem about 1 week ago and Kaspersky got rid of it quickly and easily.

I turn the computer on and it starts to load up this scan called Pest Scan and starts to scan my computer. I think its spy ware so I go in and uninstall it and then decide to install a better anti virus then Symantec Client Security and install CA anti virus.

As for Norton, you are experiencing the notification to update your anti-viurus. Keeping up to date is important, how ever if your Norton has expired you may need to purchase the upgrade which is bull-****. If it was me and I have done this cause I HATE Norton, uninstall Norton and all its piece of crap resource hog components and get AVG anitvirus. Its Free, updates for free, and I have been using it for years.

If you are able to transfer files you should be able to burn a dvd or cd... I would recommend this as opposed to possibly infecting your ipod.

You can absolutely infect other systems and devices if those files contain a virus.

I recommend you have antivirus from a reliable vendor like mcafee , configured porperly, and automatically updating.. and use that to scan any files before putting them back on the computer.

The only files you should worry about backing up are documents, mp3s, etc... programs should not be backed up they should have their own installation programs / disks that you will use to properly reinstall them... so you shouldn't have so much data that it will overflow ...unless you have never backed up in which case you should probably start.

If your computer has died you could first attempt a repair of windows and a reinstall of windows without a format which will keep your files. You could also get a seperate harddrive and then install the harddrive you have as a slave drive.

I've been using computers since they first came out and have never had any problems with viruses, ect UNTIL I got with SBC.When they were SBC the protection software worked, then I had to reinstall with AT%26T in March and kept calling, telling them my computer was acting weird and I didn't think the protection software was working properly. So on my computer I have a program called Mcafee and it scans my computer for viruses and so on. My computer is also Microsoft windows xp. The problem is I got a warning saying that my computer is not protected and that my virus protection is out of date but right now Mcafee is scanning my computer for viruses and whatnot but yet it says I am not protected? Windows XP has a service called Security Center which monitors your anti-virus, firewall etc and warns you if your virus definitions are out of date or a security module is not working. However, Security Center is pretty buggy, and will sometimes report problems when there is none. It really can't be relied upon.

McAfee should update its definitions most every day. Have you noticed if it has been updating? The only sure way to tell is to look inside McAfee itself and find out. It should say "last update:" or something similar.

As long as McAfee is updating itself regularly (daily), then everything is all-OK.

I have the new apple mac book intel core duo, purchased it under 1 year ago. I have the apple car protection plan for 3 years extended warranty. My computer keeps on shutting down by itself so i have called apple several times and they keep on temporareley fixing it for about a week. I took it to one of their apple authorized resellers to look at it and again they fix for only 1-2 weeks. I have taken it to there authorzed resellers for repairs 8 times but they have only done 1 actual repair on it which didn't work in the first place. WHy can't I get rid of a cookie?

I have a Toshiba computer, and I have Norton as a virus protection software (2007). Everytime it runs the check, it always has something that says "Attention Required." The thing there is a tracking cookie. I read about them the first time I saw it was on my computer and I learned to remove them. I clean out my computer (the history, cookies, and browsed websites) to make sure I get rid of things, and my computer is protected very well. Yet, every time Norton runs, it always has that cookie. DVD shrink is an amazing program to do this. I have seen it do its thing in the past and can say it is very fast and accurate.

Yet I experienced the older version of the software, and with that version the file it would rip the movie too then had to be burned on the disk using Nero Burning Rom. I am not sure but I think the newer versions actually burn it for you, but don't quote me. :)

Later this year because PG%26E has demanded it, computers will be able to be turned off and when turned back on they will start with the programs that where running when turned off and without delay. That is what I am waiting for!

I bought something along those lines (bigger) for me and my dad many many years ago--mostly to make sure everything was turned off when you aren't working on your computer. It's a thing that you plug all your computer equipment into, each plug has an on-off switch so you can click on only the things you need to use, and it also has a master on-off switch so you can turn everything off at once. It's thin and sits under my monitor.
