Is it ok to delete avirus from the Virus Chest if they are System32 or WindowsFiles? Will my comp cra

I installed AVAST just today because AVG was not healing/deleting the 8 viruses found in my computer. I found that AVAST was able to find all viruses. I deleted those that are not important files. I have an understanding that deleting the files from the chest, will permanently delete them from my computer. If I delete System32 or WINDOWS files, are these not files my computer needs? If so, I have no idea what to do with these Viruses in the chest.

I have been told that AVAST copies my system files for safe restoring if anything were to occur. The problem is I installed the program with viruses already in my system files (today), it makes no sense to me to rely on already infected system files.

Also- How great is Avast? I want to be using the best virus protection software I can get for free.

Some one please help me!!!?!!?!?!??!

Virus Help! Please Help!?spyware removal

I recently helped a mate remove the exact same thing from his computer, it is a trojan called smitfraud. Whatever you do, don't download the program, and if you already have, don't pay for it!!! It is not easy to get rid of, but possible. (Of all the answers, shel is the only one who was on the right track. I know that neither AVG nor Avast can delete it, and assume that most other AV programs won't either. So all the answerers who suggested AVG are unfortunately wrong. It is not quite that easy with this one, as is often the case with trojans..And you don't need to reformat your pc either, that is an absolute last resort!)

Virus Help?

So I got this popup from Norton Antivirus:

Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32

( I just used my restart disk 1 month ago and my computer has very little on it!) I searched for this file that should be there but it does not exist on my computer, but I still think it might have it due to the fact that it has the timer at shut down! How do I know if I have the Sasser virus?spyware remover

The Saaser worm is a new virus propagating all across the Internet.

First, disable Windows Restore Point.

Second, download http://www.american.edu/technology/sites... to your desktop. Next, reboot into Safe Mode in Windows. Then run the Sasser removal tool you just downloaded.

Once the tool is finished running, reboot your machine again, and then run Windows Update to make sure you have all the latest patches.

If you don't understand these instructions then you may need some technical support. I have an online support company that can assist you. Email me at support@pcsecureonline.com and I will send you a coupon for a discounted online support session with me. Flash Drive demolished?

I have a 2GB flash drive which had lots of information and important files. I have them backed up somewhere safe, but here's my problem...

The flash drive was plugged into the computer at the time when lsass.exe crashed and did a 60-second countdown for shut down. Once it restarted, my flash drive was completely cleaned out. It had password protection on it and even the password was cleared out to nothing.

Is it possible that a hacker got access to my computer and copied these files, then completely destroyed them? (I used an undelete utility, by the way... didn't work) If it wasn't a hacker that got onto my computer, why would my flash drive be cleared out like it is?

I also looked online about lsass.exe (LSASS.EXE) saying that a worm/virus could have manipulated the code in lsass.exe, allowing a hacker to gain access or something like that? Any thoughts on this?

Flash Drive demolished?stinger

Mine has done the same thing, but w/o the lsass.exe problem. My dad, and engineer, suggested that it would be like you pulled the flash drive out of the computer while it was saving or extracting a file. Sometimes the computer will glitch up on the programs and erase them. I'm not saying this is the cause but I hope it helps.

Good job backing up your data. :) You should do it regularly if you want to keep the data you have in case something like this happens again.

Shall I continue to work as Branch Manager or take VRS at this age of 45?

I am a science graduate, aged 45 and working as a branch manager in a nationalised bank. I am non-corrupt and financially well placed. Of late, it is becoming very difficult to work in the present tension atmosphere of banking, particularly after the VRS offer was given in the year 2000. Work seems unrealistic, responsibilities are many, risk is more, targets are irreasonably high and slave to everyone. We have to keep running instead of steadily working. Cannot get sufficient support from lower rungs in view of the protection they are enjoying due to their service conditions. I am interested in computer software. I wish to take voluntary retirement from bank and to do deep study in software for acadamic purposes only. Is my decision prudent ?

Shall I continue to work as Branch Manager or take VRS at this age of 45?symantic

Personally I think software field is a good one to study for, knowing that there will always be something that you can do, programming, designing, implementing, consulting and so on. The only thing that I am not sure is the pay, but since you said only for academic purposes, I guess the money is irrelevent issue for you.

If the VRS offer puts you to more work and less time for yourself, I would suggest to stay as Branch Manager, since you are already well established financial wise, so why should you give it up? Working under less pressure is good for your health in a long run, which is something that you should be looking into.

I hope I was a bit help to you, good luck!

A anti spyware "antivirgear "finds itself on my taskbar, nohing i can do to remove it, wha

Some of the fastest-growing and dangerous threats on the Internet are spyware, adware, dialers and browser hijackers. Simple web-page browsing can cause you a lot of PC infections. That is why the very first thing a clever user should do is to protect his computer not only with anti-virus programs but with anti-spyware applications as well. AntiVirGear has proved to be one of the most effective protection solutions. It is the most advanced Spyware detection and removal application on the Internet available.

If your PC is infected with spyware all your keystrokes, visited websites and even conversations can be recorded or monitored by someone who had secretly installed spy software on your PC. This person or company can steal your banking data, make Internet access slower, change browser homepage, etc.

Usually spyware is bundled with software downloads, attached to e-mails, or transmitted through networks. That鈥檚 why many antivirus programs define it as legitimate software. Once installed, it can be hard to remove, and therefore, your computer will remain infected and your privacy will be at risk for a long time. We have developed a powerful tool 鈥?AntiVirGear 鈥?to help users detect and remove spyware and malware from their PCs.

Every PC owner has valuable and confidential personal information stored on his/her computer. This can include credit card and banking details, private e-mails and documents, shopping and browsing habits, etc. All this information should be protected from software intruders snooping. Are you sure your PC is protected? Do you want to know whether it is infected or clean? Download FREE AntiVirGear scanner and check your PC now.

I downloaded something that may be Trojan spyware or virus?

I was looking for a new todder bed yesterday and clicked a link to what I thought was an online store. All these windows starting popping up saying "initiating download", and my computer downloaded them. There was no "cancel" button and the "X" close button was gray and wouldn't let me close these windows. Now I have windows popping up every 3 minutes or so telling me "Somebody's trying to attack your PC! Click here to download spyware remover for total protection" clicked the OK and I was brought to a website for downloading spyware removers. I didn't download it. Also, my homepage keeps being set to this same page whenever I restart my computer. I have Norton and got an alert that Trojan-something was attempting to access my computer and was blocked. I went and did a search for files and applications that were modified at the time this downloading occured, and found some titled Trojan. I tried to delete all the files and stuff for that time period....(more coming in a few minutes)

A couple of questions!!?

Okay. I have a few problems with my computer, that I can't seem to resolve.

1. When starting computer, it takes a long time to boot up. I haven't installed or downloaded anything new recently, any ideas on why this is happening all the sudden?

2. Lately, when running Internet Explorer, I have gotten an error message stating that IE encountered a problem, and needs to close, this too has just started happening recently. I have uninstalled Internet Explorer, and reinstalled a new version to see if that would help, but it hasn't. In fact, there newer version seemed to be worse. I have completely uninstalled IE, and am now using Firefox. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Also, should I just stick with Firefox, and leave IE behind?

I have ran multiple tests on the computer for viruses, etc. All of the tests have came back w/o any viruses, or spyware. I also updated my virus protection, and ran a new scan, but it also came back with no viruses or spyware.

A couple of questions!!?vincent

Amanda, Do this for the first issue (I am assuming you got windows XP):

1. Go to Start -%26gt; Run. In the run box type 'msconfig' and hit OK.

2. On the system configuration utility, go to 'STARTUP' tab. There you would see a long list of programs. At the bottom of the tab, there is a 'Disable All Button'. Click that.

I feel like I'm being threatened by internet detectives? what should I do?

A thirty year old man (Mikey) is having a relationship with a 15 year old. hes got her so manipulated so where she won't love and loves no one but him. I love her more then anybody yet she doesn't care after she met him.

I reported him to child protection agencies such as the National Center for Missing and exploited children. I know Mikey is only interested in having sex with my best friend.

I love her, and have feelings for her. I feel like Shes not meant to be with Mikey. Heck hes twice her age.

Then I reported him again after MySpace took off his account (Mikeys victim told me his account got hacked. It wasn't hacked just tooken of cause hes a pedophile).

Now chat detectives are after me and trying to record my conversations like I'm a net criminal. What the f*** is going on here.

That's what you call an ad. If AVG Free does what you want it to do, then you don't really need to change it. I use AVG Free for antivirus, Windows Defender and Spybot Search %26 Destroy for anti-spyware, Sygate Personal Firewall as my software firewall, and I've seen them all in action.

AVG, Windows Defender, and Sygate Personal Firewall once prevented my system from problems when Bethseda's official forums got hacked. (This was before I installed Spybot.) That particular situation was an unusual one, the best way to avoid problems is simply to stay away from dubious websites. You're not likely to get a virus from, say, Cnet. Or Yahoo Answers. But if you're visiting sites that offer "free downloads" of "full version" software, then you're tempting fate. (And hopefully Bethseda's learned it's lesson about keeping it's forum software up to date.)

Pccillin and halo 1 problems?

i recently had to formatt my laptop because all my games stopped working. even games as small as diablo 1 stoped working.

after i formatted i installed halo 1 and pccillin(virus protection). halo worked fine, perfect even. then i finnished a 5 hour upgrade of my virus protection and then the problem starts. the problem is that my halo now runs normaly for about 9 seconds and then freezes for a sec and then i get "the blue screen of death" displaying that theres a problem and my computer must restart. i have re-installed halo twice and still it does the same thing. i have upgraded halo and still the problem is there.

i went to a site to upgrade my video card driver but the program it gave me that checks my version and avalable updates says it can't install any.

i have a ATI mobility radeon x1600 256mb

so i don't know what is going on. i know if i install any other games this problem will happen to them too. so does anyone know of this happening or how to fix it? or why?

You need lots of RAM to run all that stuff.

Do you have enough?

Try downloading ccleaner it will remove all the unnecessary files such as temporary internet files.

http://www.ccleaner.com/
well if u r going to websites that you know that don't have virus then close your protection virus thingy and if u press alt-ctrl delete find(if u r using firefox look for firefox.exe or if you are using internet explorer look for iexplorer.exe) and right click and go down and find "Set priority" then choose which one you want, i would suggest high but other stuff will slow down a little, or just get a new isp. lol
We always use TCPOptimizer to do that http://urltea.com/2lfj
try restoring your comp.or try recovering your comp

it deletes all viruses and spyware abviously it deletes the porgarms ans software to.
mine too?
restoring your computer doesnt always delete viruses since the restored files are just moved to another folder on your pc.. if its a wifi router make sure your wireless network is locked because you could easily have people leaching off your network. also check for programs that may be updating in the back ground, and reset the router and modem just for the hell of it.

Downloading From the Internet problem?

I have a basic wireless network set up in my home. A cable modem connected to a Netgear Wirless router. (Model WGR614 v6) just recently i noticed that any computers on this wireless network cannot download files. It would complete the online download, but when you wanted to install it on to the computer it would bring up a error message or a corrupted file error. This goes with any file that I want to download. Even updates for my virus protection software. It always shows that a file is corrupted. If anyone knows what this problem could be please let me know i would appreciate it. Thanks

Downloading From the Internet problem?free adware remover

Some wireless access points (I'm not familiar with that one) get hot enough under heavy load (like file downloading) that they actually shut completely down. Yours may just get hot enough to corrupt the files you're downloading.

Make sure that the router is adequately cooled (open air for at least 12" on all sides [except the bottom, obviously, but it should be sitting on a hard flat surface]) and not on another piece of equipment (which is probably throwing off heat).

If that doesn't fix it, it may be time for a new router. A Linksys WRT54G should run you under $50 these days.

Why does Yahoo Search constantly return "Unable to process request at this time -- error 999&qu

I get this error 90% of the time I try to use Yahoo as a search engine. I've tried everything. I have plenty of anti-virus protection. I have run Spybot Search and Destroy.

I have no clue what is causing this error.

On a similar note, I am having problems logging into the official World of Warcraft forums. It doesn't want to accept my username and password when I log in. It doesn't tell me it's incorrect, just takes me directly back to the login screen.

Both of these problems are on my home computer only. I just built this machine less than 2 months ago. Everything is up to date. My virus protect hasn't found anything. The only downloads made by this computer have been from download.com and WoW patches. (Respectable sources)

PLEASE help!

Thanks in advance

HELP!!!!!!!!!! Did System Recovery on Emachine and now it will not boot?

My niece and nephew put a really a bad virus on my computer and I had a very hard time trying to get rid of it. I tried everything and none of my virus protection software was working. So I finally I just backed up all my files and attempted a full System Recovery using the CD that came with the computer. The system will not let me completely boot so then I did a full system recovery reinstalling everything and now I am now it keeps telling me "NTLDS (I think) Compressed" Press Crtl, Atl, Del. Dell xps m1530 or macbook pro 15 inch??

Hi,

I am an architecture student, I ahve to buy a laptop for the next semester. I have gotten down to only to options now. The dell xps m1530 or the macbook pro. The options I have are pretty similar. 2.4 core 2 duo processor, 2 gb of ram, Nvidida 256 mb 8600 gt video card. The only difference between the 2 is the hard drive, the one with the dell i am buying is 7200 rpm with the mac one is only 5400 rpm... The dell option has the 3 year warranty, with accidental damage protection, and lojack. As far as the programs, I already own all the programs I need (antivirus, design, photoshop, Autodesk, etc) Both computers, at these specifications are really really similar. The big diffrence is price, around 2,000 for the dell and around 2600 for the mac. what would you recommend me??

Oh and before i forget, I am going to use the computer for design, photoshop, autocad, Revit, Maya, 3ds max, and gaming occasionaly.

Thank you

Alright, let's get one thing straight. Macbook... god forbid... PROS, aren't gods, despite popular belief. I do not understand where these apple humpers emerged from, who claim to choose a mac over an xps with out a second of hesitation. You really want to take the opinion from that of a religious fanatic, fine, may the zeal of apples be with you.

Ahem. LISTEN TO WHAT THEY'RE SAYING TO YOU, spend 700 more on a brand for a SLOWER hard drive. THEN they want you to BUY A FRIGGEN PROGRAM to run WINDOWS on MACS just so you can put that fancy schmansy graphics card to proper USE. And IF everything is the same you just ASSUME that vista is going to get you more problems? have you SEEN the bongbags who struggle with vista? "duh why won't my vista run i have 516 mb ram 1.5 GH processor durr macs r better lols", now you say wait a minute, the mac OS runs on 2 gigs of ram, I WONDER THE HELL WHY, next you say vista has viruses... mac has virsus too, do a little thing called google and a list pops up, i assure you, know what that means fan boys? you try wagging your john on a mac, you still get worm bites on your hard drive. The douches at apples need to literally make fun of PCs and OSs just to make advertisement, this typical douchebaggery is especially resonated amongst the demography of apple - typical douche bags. Go with the sure thing kid, get what your daddy got, there's nothing wrong with PCs, its the apples that are rotten. ;)

Wireless Internet Connection Problems, 10 Pts to Best Answer?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 that I got at the very end of August. The computer is running wirelessly to a Netgear wireless router. The computer's internet worked fine up until about a month ago. And its starting to bug the hell out of me. On my connection on the taskbar at bottom of screen the connection shows none. But when I place mouse over it, it says Connection status : unknown Server Execution : failed

I have no idea what is wrong with it. I uninstalled a bunch of stuff figuring that was the problem. I no longer have my anti virus protection (Norton) Would that be a problem? Is it my router? Can I delete all files/programs to solve this, if so how? Please help me.. Internet works now, but very slowly!

It sounds like a problem with your router because of the "server execution failed" message. Try the following techniques (one at a time) to reset your connection.

First thing to try is to click on the network icon at the bottom in the taskbar and select repair, which will reset your ip address with the router. If that doesn't work,

Internet/Firewall Problem?

I've had my computer for about a year, running Vista, and have been using Norton products for many years. In an effort to make my games run faster (their so taxing nowadays) I tried to switch to AVG so my protection doesn't take such a big hit on my performance which is just about the only problem I had with Norton's products.

Here in lies the problem. During the installation of AVG my internet just randomly crashed. Under the impression AVG might have caused it. I uninstalled AVG. Internet works fine.

Then the problem gets worse. Turns out Norton didn't uninstall properly and my computer still identifies it as installed, won't let me install it, uninstall it and I'm stuck in the middle, having to choose between an internet connection and safety.

My 12yr old brother was dying for a laptop & got one for Christmas. My parents gave it to him w/

restrictions on it....not because they are bad parents but they really don't know much about computers or much about that stuff at all. Anyway, he uses the computer a lot for all his school projects, to go on aim, etc. He has a password set, but did not hesitate to give it to me, my mom and dad (he only didn't want my other brothers to use it). Although he is still very naive and I don't "think" he goes on any bad sites, for his own protection, I want to put some settings on there to block things such as porn....simply because I don't want him to be exposed to that whether he looks for it on purpose or it comes up on accident. What is the best way to do this...meaning...should I tell him I am doing that...should I explain why....should I make the master account under my name so I can change his settings? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

I received an email from my cousin she says she didn't send?

Does anyone have an explanation for this. My cousin has a hotmail account and according to her she has McAfee as her firewall/virus protection etc. Today I received an email from her, it was also sent to pretty much everyone in her address book. It was an email introducing a wholesale electronics website and saying look into these prices etc. contact me to help you and so on. Anyway I clicked it and it's a website for electronics as it said. I really believed it was from my cousin as she is always into some business or another making money in different areas. Anyway when I called her, she insists that she knows nothing about this and she's been out of town for the past 2 days and hasn't even been on her computer. Now I automatically thought I was being sent some type of virus but nothing seems wrong with my computer or hers. Does anyone recognize this type of situation. Could it just be a fluke. It comes from her email adress though. Any ideas from experts would be appreciated.

If her antivirus is up to date, then someone has picked up both email addresses and sending items out as spam. It is fairly easy to send an email with someone else's address to make it look like it came from someone you know. It helps to get by spam filters that most ISPs have in place. Addresses can be picked up from messages where folks to alot of forwarding or replying to all in emails.

Last known config. does not apear.?

Ive been having problems with my computer but its nothing serious, i have fixed it before with last known config. but it is not showing up and im pretty sure thats the only way to fix it other than system restore(but thats not working because of my protection) But this is what happens... I start up windows it gets to my desktop and freezes before it loads everything. As i said i used last known config. last time but it does not show up on the first few times i restart my computer... So is there a way to do last known config. in safe mode?

Once you start up in safe mode you won't be able to load the last known good configuration. Try doing a System Restore back a ways in Safe mode.

Don't know why id didn;t work. Youshoud reinstall the operating system that came with the computer not something you want. That should work. If not try going to best buy and ask the geek squad.
First use a bootabale floppy disk for windows 98 to re-format the computer. If it doesnt installs then use bootable cd-rom for windows xp. it will automatically format ur hard disk into fat32 or ntfs(if u dont want ever to install 98) and check the drive for any possible errors. i m sure this will work out.

How good is Zone Alarm Security Suite?

I have been using Zone Alarm Security suite for almost 1 year. Only thing bad I found in it is it slows the computer when it boots up in other words, the computer takes more time to boot and get ready for the user to work. (atleast 50-80 seconds extra) compare to the normal boot up. The eficienty of detecting the viruses is very superb. The firewall is excellent, very easy to configure and good in real protection.

so has any body used it or using it?? do you recommend me using this again? I'm currently using Avast Professional Anti-virus and in built windows firewall.

Also tell, how's Kaspersky Security Suite, Bitdefender Security Suite and Macfee Internet Security Suite.

Thanks in advance for your help.

How good is Zone Alarm Security Suite?internet security software

I am 100% against the all in one security suites. The reason is logic. If one antispyware, one antivirus and one firewall have all they can do to keep your PC 100% clean, how do you expect an all in one software to protect. (Not possible in my opinon, as a beta tester for just about every security software).

I am 100% against what is know as "total security". Just think how hard it is for one antivirus, antispyware, firewall to keep your system secure. Logic will tell you that "total security", can no way keep all these security risk secure.

Vanishing Files...?

Yesterday I was trying to arrange my pictures into folders so I could burn them on to disks. I had all my folders in order, went to burn them, and they were no longer there. A friend helped me out and told me to do a .JPG search and it would pull up every picture I had in my computer. This did NOT work in recovering the original photos, but I did how ever find the smaller ones I cropped and saved in my documents. So I copied all of them, arrange them into a folder and low and behold they disappeared too! So I did another .JPG search again and couldn't find any of the pictures I had just recovered. I have searched everywhere I know to look, I have done a system restore with no luck, they are just no where to be found! This morning I woke up and noticed that limewire and yahoo messenger I just installed last week are no longer in my computer either. I went to add and remove programs to see if maybe just the icons disappeared and its like I never installed them. I just don't understand how something can be there, and the next day they are gone! Every single picture of my daughter is missing and I am heartbroken. Any suggestion on what to do next? Could it be possible that I have a virus? I have McAfee virus protection and its not catching anything unusual. I am just at a loss for words. Please help me, pretty please with sugar on top!!! ~Jess

Is anyone else having problems with Windows Live Onecare? My firewall won't start and Onecare k

Yesterday Windows Live Onecare had a security alert on my computer. The firewall wasn't switched on. It had not been turned off by me. I tried to switch it back on but couldn't. Onecare keeps failing to respond, I can't get any assistance with Onecare Help, and my attempts to contact Technical Suport have failed. My computer keeps freezing. I have run a full scan but no viruses or malware were detected. I have been using Onecare since last year and began subscribing to it in November last year. I haven't had any problems up to now. Prior to these problems I tried to use a disk with Photoshop images on it, however I didn't download the disk. I don't know if there is a link to that or not. I have not downloaded anything else recently. I use Windows Vista Home Premium. At one point all the anti-spy nad virus protection shut down. Also my Yahoo homepage keeps changing colour. Is there a way to disguise text in Microsoft Word as other text?

For example, say there is a document that I do not want others reading but that may be opened by a snoopy person using my computer, or by my mother, or my brother when he's fixing my computer. Is there a way to make text in a Microsoft Word document look like other text? i.e., a private letter look like a harmless short story? I know there is password protection, but I'm wondering if there is any disguise-text-as-other-text option, too.

Is there a way to disguise text in Microsoft Word as other text?ktm

Well, you could change all of your text to a graphical font after you finish writing it. It would look like gibberish unless they selected all, and selected a normal font (they probably would not be thinking in that manner when they saw your document)

Is there a way to disguise text in Microsoft Word as other text?nortan

I do this with my sis all the time I write an email select all change the font to Wingdings or Webdings and then she changes it back. It may work but only if you password protect it too. That way they can't modify it only you can and therefore they can't change the font. Also make sure that you give others NO rights so they can't copy and paste it to a new document. Also after saving it right click on it and make it Read Only then password protect it that way only you can remove the read only attribute thereby again making it so they can't copy it, or change the font.

Antivirus for Windows ME and 98?

Microsoft no longer supports these two O/S, and I鈥檝e noticed that upcoming antivirus software doesn鈥檛 seem to include them either. Does anybody out these have either of these older O/S, and what do you plan on doing for an antivirus, and spyware for that matter?

I was advised to check on freeware at Grisoft but found that they are only supporting these two for a short while longer; same with Avast. I鈥檝e got ME on one computer; it鈥檚 obviously old but functions well and I had no reason to replace this unit. Thought of upgrading it to XP but have read some nasty stories about the problems that folks have had in that endeavor, and it also seems as if the simple XP upgrade isn鈥檛 available; it鈥檚 XP with a service pack, which will only go on top of a system already loaded with XP.

I don鈥檛 understand why protection would no longer be offered to these two, even though they鈥檙e old, since it鈥檚 to no one鈥檚 advantage to have unprotected computers online picking up viruses and passing them on.

It's time to buy a new PC!

Unless you have a computer running specialist software that requires Windows 98 you might as well buy a used PC running Windows XP. For 拢50/$100 you can buy a perfectly good PC with something like an AMD or Pentium 4 2.6 Ghz processor which is bound to be a lot faster than what you are using now.

What Is With These People Here Claiming Windows Vista Sucks?

Do they even have vista?

I'm tired of seeing everyday people write "windows vista has bugs" "windows vista has compatibility issues" while the only bug I've noticed was a ant crawling on my LCD and the only compatiblility issue (out of several dozen programs) was actually good that I want incompatible, the starforce copy protection system.

As a windows vista user, one who has experienced no slowdowns, viruses, BSODS, anything of that kind, I have no clue why people say these things. Perhaps Apple hires people to do so?

I mean, my printer worked, my flash drive that didn't work with XP worked with vista, my computer is always speedy on startup, etc.

Most computer problems are caused by bad device drivers, user misunderstanding, bad hardware, and no precautions (like antivirus software)

My question is, why do people still complain about windows vista?

What Is With These People Here Claiming Windows Vista Sucks?microsoft office

I have used Vista on some computers with an organization I that I do work with and have had some of these problems. It is so large that it makes the older computers run very slow (even if they supposedly have enough memory to operate it), my Dad is having terrible compatibility problems with his printer (which is relatively new) and I don't find it as intuitive as Windows. I also agree it is unstable and buggy. My employer (with 1,000 employees with computers) has elected to wait for now for making the switch (i just got a new work computer and it is running XP) and I have no intention of changing from Windows XP at home until I absolutely have to.

Download and Run Advanced Windows Care Personal

http://www.download.com/Advanced-Windows... this will tune up your system and show you what starts at bootup, and allow you to edit this.

(uncheck the Registry tab, but check the Spyware, Security and startup tabs and see what is starting up and disable harmful items. Sometimes you can run this in safe mode, which would enable you to disable harmful programs before they start in normal mode. Run this program in safe mode if possible and necessary. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsaf...

Toontown - Problem Connecting?

Ok, so, I went on toontown to go on my account, but i havent been on for a while. My computer was restarted and all the stuff on it had to be lie saved on a disk and downloaded back onto my computer. So I try to log in, it loads half-way, but then a page comes up with this written on it:

Toontown.exe was unable to contact the Toontown download server outside Internet Explorer. Most likely, the connection was prevented by some personal firewall software, such as Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee Firewall, BlackICE PC Protection, ZoneAlarm, or Microsoft WinXP Internet Connection Firewall. If you have a personal firewall program such as any of these (or any similar product) installed, please ensure it is configured to allow Toontown.exe to make connections to the internet.

I don't understand what it means and have no Idea how to use firewall settings. I tried to change the settings to allow downloads from toontown, but it doesn't give me the option to do that. Does anybody know how?

SpyAway is confusing me...please help!?

I was just checking my myspace like usual and then all of a sudden I started getting these messages about spyware on my computer and my desktop changed to a warning message. I clicked the link to download protection and it led me to SpyAway. I was so freaked that I went ahead and bought it. Anyways I ran a scan and it says it detected something crazy like 50,000 threats and yet it has only deleted 74 files. What does this mean? Will SpyAway do the job (please say yes since I just bought it)? Any help you could give me would be great. thanks!

SpyAway is confusing me...please help!?network security

Sorry to say, but SpyAway is a rogue program. (See Spyware Warrior link in source below.) Those pop ups that got you to buy the bogus program were most likely caused by a variant of the smitfraud infection.

In any case, it is a junk program and you have to get rid of it.

First try to do a conventional uninstall via your add/remove programs. But that probably won't remove it, so then I would suggest running RogueFix and/or RogueRemover to get rid of SpyAway (and the smitfruad infection.)

%26gt; RogueFix: http://www.internetinspiration.co.uk/rog...

%26gt; RogueRemover: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5360.h...

And finally I would suggest running Superantispyware to remove any other malware that the original trojan may have also brought in.

See if this fixes the problem. if not you may have to do a full install.

Reformat and start from scratch. bear in mind that if you do this all your data will be wiped.

Back up everything you want to keep (documents, mp3's email addresses, emails, internet favourites.

get your xp cd.

put it in the drive

boot your machine

Your machine should boot to the installer.

Follow the prompts. You will need your xp key number.

IF your machine won't boot to the cd you will need to change your bios settings. to do this, hit 'delete' when the bios information shows just after the machine has switched on. Change your drive order so your cd is first in the sequence.

If you get stuck, msg me.

Switching Browsers Successfully?

I was advised to switch from Internet Explorer to Moxilla Firefox with Google Toolbar for better protection against viruses/malware/spyware and faster surfing.

So, now that I have a new browser, should I just delete internet explorer so it will not take up computer resources? If so, how would I go about doing that? I went to the Add/Remove programs section in the control panel and internet explorer was not in the list of programs to uninstall.

I have a toshiba laptop and windows vista home.

Thanks in advance.

Switching Browsers Successfully?vista

You made a good choice to switch your browsers . However i do not recommend google toolbar. Tool bars normally slow down your computer and your internet surfing. If you installed the tool bar for protection then i would install a Firefox extension called adblockplus. It is very popular and does a very good job of blocking malware. I would highly recommend avoiding any installation of any toolbars as they are very vulnerable to viruses etc. Internet explorer will not take up computer resources. Removing it will not make any difference whatsoever. I know how to uninstall IE in XP however i do not know how to do that on vista, sorry.

Switching Browsers Successfully?antispyware

No, you can't remove IE explorer, it's an intrical part of microsoft programing. just don't use it
I use Mozilla and I've tried to delete IE, but it reconstructs itself. (sounds cool, right? :P) It's a really small program, I'd just say don't bother.
Don't try to uninstall IE. You can corrupt critical operating system files as well as Outlook Express (or Windows Live Mail). Best bet is to simply download Firefox and use it as your primary web browser.
Wouldn't that be cool? But, no, I'm sorry, you can't delete IE. You will occasionally need it for Windows updates. But it won't use up significant resources while you're not using it.

Enjoy Mozilla Firefox! It's a much better browser, one you can modify with add-ons to suit your needs.
You cant erase it, its part of windows
Internet Explorer is part of the Windows Operating System. It's not possible to get rid of it under normal conditions because it would mess with your OS. Keep it, you might need it later because Firefox does have a few compatibility issues.
you can delete E7 but it would take forever because thats how windows does it updates trhu E7 I would recommend for you not to delete it and just keep both make sure you always have the updates thought for E7

Soldier Front Game Download?

When i download soldier front on this computer it ALWAYS comes up with the password, so i do it. Then it sais "Download file was not retreived from the server properly."

Somthing is wrong and i just want to know how to fix it.

I really want to play soldier front but that happens.

In this i do not want a URL to download it because i've tryed every website that you can download it of and it dont work.

This is what i think causes it:

- AVG antivirus protection.

-Windows firewall.

-Windows defender.

-Security center.

I know this may be hard to help but i am really... desperate!

Maybe you should try and uninstall all your anti virus softwares. If that doesn't work go to tools, then click internet options and delete all browsing history and temporary files.

sf maybe stuck downloading.

I am not quite sure. In my opinion, those would not hinder you, ( I haven't tried spyware doctor yet)

Maybe you are just trying to download it in a premium site, where only members are the only people allowed to download, I mean the paying members. Anyway there are easier ways to get a file...

Vista won't play my DVD?

Every time I try to play my movie (Ocean's 13 if you were curious) I get this message:

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

The thing is, I was watching it earlier! I had to restart my computer because my AIM froze up. I went to start the dvd again and this message pops up. WTF! How do I fix it?

Vista won't play my DVD?

Switch to Linux. I use OpenSuSE myself and I have no problems playing DVDs. It did require the installation of the DeCSS program (technically illegal).

Linux is also free, so cost is not an issue.

Vista won't play my DVD?antivirus downloads

once again thank people who pirate movies. The rediculous copy protection you are fighting is called HDCP. The thing with HDCP is that you need to have an HDCP enabled dvd drive, video card, and monitor to even view the movie. It sounds like something has changed identification after the restart. Look to see if your monitor is properly identified. You can also try to reinstall the video card driver. It could also be the dvd drive. Just make sure everything is showing up as itself and hasn't switched to something universal. It could be a setting that was changed during the restart.

these problems are pretty hard to diagnose over a message board sorry. The good news is that a couple of new movies have done away with DHCP and are using more user friendly protection like codes on the actual dvd case insead.
try doing a restore from a day before you aim froze try that if not try updating your video card
Vista have many problems, its a bit of crappy OS. I suggest to change to XP, or install UBUNTU- you can watch DVD smoothly in this OS.

If you wont, I better tell you Oceans 13 Story.

How can i return my scratched up ipod touch?

I bought my iPod back in October 3, 07'. we bought the apple care 2 yr protection plan. I found 2 deep noticeable scratches recently on the screen. i was woundering if i can return it and get a new one. O heres the twist. i bought it at Comp. USA!? they closed from where i am living! closed as in out of business. it sux. it would totally suck if i couldn't return it because the computer superstore that i bought my iTouch from closed on me. can i return it to a local Apple store or at a Best Buy maybe?

i would try going to the apple store. when my ipod broke it was about 2 years out of warranty. i figured it was worth the drive to the store to see what they would do. they ended up giving me a brand spanking new ipod for no charge at all.

I just installed a new SATA hard drive (160 gigs) into my laptop and I don't have sound?

I just installed a new SATA HD on my laptop and loaded Windows XP (along with Microsoft Office 2003 and my other printing software) and I was wondering if I need to purchase something else to get sound or do I just need to configure my computer for sound? I opened up the sound properties and I thought that would take care of it, but I still don't hear anything.

If would also like to know if I do need to purchase something, about how much sould I expect to spend? I just spend $200 on the HD, antivirus protection and on a flash drive. (Had to get the stuff fast, so I did not use the internet for a cheaper price).

I'm going to see if a CD will produce any sound since I have not yet tryed that. I'm not sure if that even makes a difference.

I just installed a new SATA hard drive (160 gigs) into my laptop and I don't have sound?adware

find sould device in devices and select update driver - choose get updated drivers from MS if connected to internet, then look for you sound device and select it. MS drivers should be recent enough to be compatible with your sound card.

I just installed a new SATA hard drive (160 gigs) into my laptop and I don't have sound?antivirus scan

You need to go to the website for the company that made your laptop, go to the support/drivers page and download all the drivers for your hardware like Video, Sound, Modem, chipset, ect. Xp may have installed some of these when installing the O.S., but it is best to go to the manufacturer's website to get the most up to date drivers.
Make sure you still have a sound card driver in device properties.
If before installing a new HDD u are getting sound then

1) Right click on my computer-- select properties--- select hardware tab-- click on device manager button-- if there is a yellow exclamation mark prior to sound, video game controllers option you need to install drivers for sound hardware

2) simply insert the Motherboard driver CD into CD drive and it will autorun

3) search for an option for installing sound driver
You need to download the sound drivers related to your sound card.
Sorry Sandbar,

I am not the one. I know nothing technical about computers. I'm a novice and only know how to do the e mail thing and deal with website for my greeting card company.

I have avast anti-virus software and it keeps telling me I have adware..?

I use avast anti-virus protection and it says I have adware. I keep getting pop-ups from this software that makes all these alarm sounds that say I have adware. It tells me this atleast 2 times a day. (this is the avast that is saying I have it) It recommends to "move to chest". Well I have done that. And there is also a choose that says delete. I had tired that too. It keeps popping back up saying I have it.

I also use AVG Anti-Virus and AVG anti-spyware. Which these two work great. I dont think they cover adware since its only the free version

Anyway, If I have more than 2 programs open at once. Say, one will be AIM, and another is the internet, my computer will start to freeze up. Like right now, I type and a few secs. later it will show what I'm typing.

I use firefox, I have a windows XP, and I have just reinstalled windows on here back in Feb. So it hasnt been that long.

My question is, how can I get rid of this adware. It says its in Win32 file.

Thanks

Virus/Spyware on my pc...?

Unfortunately, I seem to have picked up a virus/some spyware from somewhere, and it is really annoying.

Fortunately, my McAfee picked up 3 trojan viruses and deleted them, however, something has been installed onto my PC.

Next to the time on my computer is an imitation 'Windows Security' shield that has a question mark and a red cross in it. When I click on it, it takes me to this website (please don't click on it incase it does anything to your pc, it is just incase this has happend to anyone else so they can help me) 'http://www.virprotect.com/?aff=1012' where it is trying to sell me Virus Protect Anti Spyware Protection.

My homepage has been changed to this 'http://homepagecell.com/' telling me I have a system security status warning on my pc, and I also have 'Security Toolbar 7.1' appeared at the top of my Internet Explorer.

I have done a full Lavasoft Ad-Aware scan, and restarted my PC, but nothing seems to have gone :(

Try going to your Add %26 Remove programs %26 remove the Security Toolbar. This happened to me once %26 it may be how I got rid of it.
try using spybot search and destroy from filehippo.com and also grab a coppy of ccleaner from the same place see what that turnes up
When you get Trojan's and Spyware it is difficult to remove it completely. When you go through this situation your best bet would to perform a System Restore (restoring your computer to an earlier time) and backing up your data then performing a Reformatting procedure. The system restore will inactivate the virus' but you will still have all the threats on the computer, the reformat will wipe everything and you can start new.
