I just installed a new SATA hard drive (160 gigs) into my laptop and I don't have sound?

I just installed a new SATA HD on my laptop and loaded Windows XP (along with Microsoft Office 2003 and my other printing software) and I was wondering if I need to purchase something else to get sound or do I just need to configure my computer for sound? I opened up the sound properties and I thought that would take care of it, but I still don't hear anything.

If would also like to know if I do need to purchase something, about how much sould I expect to spend? I just spend $200 on the HD, antivirus protection and on a flash drive. (Had to get the stuff fast, so I did not use the internet for a cheaper price).

I'm going to see if a CD will produce any sound since I have not yet tryed that. I'm not sure if that even makes a difference.

find sould device in devices and select update driver - choose get updated drivers from MS if connected to internet, then look for you sound device and select it. MS drivers should be recent enough to be compatible with your sound card.

You need to go to the website for the company that made your laptop, go to the support/drivers page and download all the drivers for your hardware like Video, Sound, Modem, chipset, ect. Xp may have installed some of these when installing the O.S., but it is best to go to the manufacturer's website to get the most up to date drivers.
Make sure you still have a sound card driver in device properties.
If before installing a new HDD u are getting sound then

1) Right click on my computer-- select properties--- select hardware tab-- click on device manager button-- if there is a yellow exclamation mark prior to sound, video game controllers option you need to install drivers for sound hardware

2) simply insert the Motherboard driver CD into CD drive and it will autorun

3) search for an option for installing sound driver
You need to download the sound drivers related to your sound card.
Sorry Sandbar,

I am not the one. I know nothing technical about computers. I'm a novice and only know how to do the e mail thing and deal with website for my greeting card company.

Sorry,

Chubby
