Adware and spyware?

I just want to know the difference and it you need to different types of protection to prevent them.

I'm pretty sure spyware is harmful software that takes info without you knowing and adware is also harmful software that installs inself on your computer. They both get on when you download something dangerous. Is this correct?

Spyware will spy on your PC activities and steal information about you. Adware, typically, just pops up advertisements while you are using some free software that you have downloaded. Adware is just a way of allowing software to be free while still making money of ads. Spyware is dangerous while Adware is just generally annoying.
There are a couple of levels of risk to adware and spyware files. No risk, Low risk , Moderate risk, High risk, etc. While most aren't too awful damaging, they can get to be a real pain when they start to accumulate. Your hard drive starts to work itself into a frenzy, when you are logged on, and your CPU usage can jump to 100%, slowing you to a crawl or locking you up. Anti spyware software such as, Adaware or Spybot Search and destroy clean all that junk up pretty nicely. I try to clean up my hard drive every time I log off the internet, and I ALWAYS find 5 to 10 new fast clicks, or tracking cookies. Most Anti virus applications don't see them as a threat, so it's best to install anti spyware that specifically looks for tracking cookies, search tags, and fast click spyware. Hope this helps you.
yes it is correct but if you have properal protection then sayware and aware won't enter your PC.
