A good genuine Anti-Virus Software?

Hi,

Recently, up to 13 deadly viruses eg. win32 detected in my PC after being scanned by AVG. My PC's status is now as 'infected'. I wanted to buy an anti-virus programme (Northon 2007 or Windows Live One Care preferred), how much will it cost? Does it mean a life-time protection upon purchase? Should I reformat my PC before i install it? or just install it and do some in depth cleaning to get rid of those virus in my computer? What are your suggestions? By the way, after my PC infected, i couldnt log in to MSN messenger anymore, weird thing is, I just able to login to my Yahoo!messenger, what's wrong?
