This spyware wont go away?!??

My computer was basically attacked the other day, and my computer was filled to the brim with spyware and viruses, all because my lazy dad forgot to buy McAfee a few weeks ago, and never did it. I downloaded the trial version of McAfee and removed all the virus i could (i think i got em all). Next i downloaded Ad-Aware because i kept getting fake warning messages and pop-ups about my computer being infected, and things like, download this program! buy this, get rid of spyware and adware! i ran ad-aware and found a total of 948 infections on my computer, and got rid of those. Unfortunatley after restarting my computer, there was still one thing left that it didnt catch, and periodically, it pops up saying that "Somebody's attacking your computer. Click OK to get spyware blocker and protection" i rescanned and found nothing else, can somebody help me get rid of this once and for all?

Phony pop-up alert boxes, background changes or "balloon" pop-ups from the tray (by the clock) about a trojan, virus or spyware infection and the attempt to sell you some useless software to "fix" the problem usually indicates that your computer has a Smitfraud infection. DO NOT BUY THE PRODUCT THEY TRY TO SELL YOU! IT IS SCAM.

Sounds like your computer may have a variant of this ubiquitous Smitfraud infection.

Okay so i went and paid for the norton?antivirus protection

Well You probably won't get either. However I recommend you go to avast.com and download the free version after you uninstall the norton. Avast was named the best antivirus of 2008. Be sure to register your version so that you get the proper updates as they become available. Also you might want to check into Spyware Doctor, also free. Between the two they really get the job done.

Question on File transfers?

Hi,

my computer has basically died... so, im thinking of transfering a few files onto my ipod, then reformatting my computer, and then putting them back...but i may have to move some files in to my lap top if there is not enough room on my ipod. however... if some files on the ipod are infected, will even connecting them to my laptop without transferring yet infect my laptop? or will it be safe enough to open the directory and scan them with whatever virus protection program i have?

Question on File transfers?adware

If you are able to transfer files you should be able to burn a dvd or cd... I would recommend this as opposed to possibly infecting your ipod.

You can absolutely infect other systems and devices if those files contain a virus.

I recommend you have antivirus from a reliable vendor like mcafee , configured porperly, and automatically updating.. and use that to scan any files before putting them back on the computer.

The only files you should worry about backing up are documents, mp3s, etc... programs should not be backed up they should have their own installation programs / disks that you will use to properly reinstall them... so you shouldn't have so much data that it will overflow ...unless you have never backed up in which case you should probably start.

If your computer has died you could first attempt a repair of windows and a reinstall of windows without a format which will keep your files. You could also get a seperate harddrive and then install the harddrive you have as a slave drive.

Good luck

Question on File transfers?antivirus scan

Often times it depends on the virus. You should be able to connect the device to your laptop and scan them without any issues. Just make sure that you do not open any of the files until they have been scanned.

Good Luck!

Can't get rid of spyware, viruses.... SBC's FAULT!!?

I am so frustrated!! I've been using computers since they first came out and have never had any problems with viruses, ect UNTIL I got with SBC.When they were SBC the protection software worked, then I had to reinstall with AT%26T in March and kept calling, telling them my computer was acting weird and I didn't think the protection software was working properly. Well.... last week I found 4 programs LOADED in my add/remove, over 400 adware, spyware, viruses, dialers, YOU NAME IT I HAVE/HAD it. And once again their software is not working, they say it would have happened weather I had protection or not. Not true.. OR AT LEAST I don't think it's true...

Someone told me to reinstall my software not to restore it. I have a HP computer, no software disc. What is the best way to clean up or should I reinstall? What about all the updates .. Have a Windows XP SP2...

Thanks.

Can't get rid of spyware, viruses.... SBC's FAULT!!?anti virus protection

Hi there,

Everyone will no doubt proceed to recommend AVG for antivirus, and then Adaware %26 Spybot for dealing with spy/adware.

However, I would avoid these free programs whose strength in protecting against malware seems to be deteriorating on a daily basis - many new variants are just sailing straight through their defences.

I would strongly recommend a relatively new program called Prevx1. This is an All-in-one solution that is continually proving to detect, protect and remove more malware than all other leading security vendors.

Plz read. I know it seems kinda long. It's worth it. Really Really funny!!!!?

Congratulations! You have purchased an Anthrax 2000 Multimedia Personal Computer with Digital Doo-Dah Enhancer. It will give many years of faithful service, if you ever get it up and running. Also included with your PC is a special bonus pack of free pre-installed software:- 'Lawn Mowing Planner', 'Blank Screen Saver', 'East Africa Route Finder' and 'X15 Submarine Mechanic' valued at over a fiver, which will provide hours of pointless diversion whilst using up most of your computers spare memory. You are now ready to begin the installation so turn the page and lets get started!

%26lt;new page%26gt;

Getting Ready: Congratulations, you have successfully turned the page which means you have a high enough IQ to realize things don't look too good. If your delicate PC has arrived in a damaged box, possibly from miss-handling or being dropped, it will be doubtful that the box will be of any use and can be thrown away.

Important meaningless note: The Anthrax 2000 is configured to use the 80386, Z80 and ARMITAGE SHANKS processors running at 2,472 hertz on variable speed spin cycle. Check your electrical installation and insurance policies before proceeding. Do not tumble dry. To prevent internal heat build up, select a cool, dry environment for your computer. The bottom shelf of a refrigerator is ideal. Unpack the box and examine its contents. (WARNING: Do not open the box if contents are missing or faulty as this will invalidate your warranty. Return all missing contents in their original packaging with a note explaining where they have gone and a replacement will be sent within twelve working months.) Also, only open the box if you intend to use your PC as this will bind you to the terms and conditions set out in the manual, which will be sent to you when it has been written. The contents of the box (if you have the deluxe model) should include some of the following: Monitor with mysterious De Gauss button; keyboard with 2陆 inches of flex; computer unit; miscellaneous wires and cables not necessarily designed for this model; 2,000 page 'Owners Manual' of which 1,987 pages are in 26 different languages; 'Short Guide to the Owners Manual'; 'Quick Start Guide' to the 'Short Guide to the Owners Manual'; 'Laminated Super-Kwik Set-Up Guide for People Who Are Exceptionally Impatient or Stupid'; 1,167 pages of warranties, vouchers, notices in Spanish and other loose pieces of paper; 292 cubic feet of cardboard and Styrofoam packing material.

Mcafee problems?

So on my computer I have a program called Mcafee and it scans my computer for viruses and so on. My computer is also Microsoft windows xp. The problem is I got a warning saying that my computer is not protected and that my virus protection is out of date but right now Mcafee is scanning my computer for viruses and whatnot but yet it says I am not protected? It doesn't make any sence to me and I was wondering if there is something wrong or anything I should be aware of. Please help me!

Mcafee problems?anti virus software

Windows XP has a service called Security Center which monitors your anti-virus, firewall etc and warns you if your virus definitions are out of date or a security module is not working. However, Security Center is pretty buggy, and will sometimes report problems when there is none. It really can't be relied upon.

McAfee should update its definitions most every day. Have you noticed if it has been updating? The only sure way to tell is to look inside McAfee itself and find out. It should say "last update:" or something similar.

As long as McAfee is updating itself regularly (daily), then everything is all-OK.
